All the wood I use in the construction of these pieces has been rescued from buildings (barns, sheds, houses, commercial buildings and schools in
various towns) built in 1880's to around 1935. Most of the lumber is
found at estate/farm auctions as the people in the country knew the value of lumber and never threw anything away when they tore down a building. So they stored the wood in another barn until they thought they would need it.
The lumber is usually rough cut meaning is was cut with a large circular
saw turned by a large belt and powered by a tractor. Walnut, oak,
fir, ash, hedge, hackberry, and cottonwood comprise most of the material.
Obviously it is well
seasoned having been stored in barn lofts for years.
The price of actually shipping a piece via
commercial carrier is usually prohibitive and I will not guarantee the condition
of the item upon delivery. It will probably be cheaper if you drive here and
pick up the item. That way you can see other items that are finished and
available for sale. I have delivered items but variables such as fuel costs,
size of item, whether or not the location is near other customers accepting
deliveries, time away from shop etc. etc. etc all affect the fees charged. Call
or email for particulars if interested in having a specific item delivered.
These farm /estate auctions also yield some good antiques at times so I have included pictures of legitimate antiques I have on hand.
Let's start with email. Write to me at "Bruce Fair"
Most of the items I make can be closely
duplicated if I have more of the same materials used in that item. If you see an
item and would like more info, email me and I'll check to see if I have the
materials on hand. Remember, an exact duplicate is not possible as wood varies
(knots, grain, slight differences in individual boards, numbers of nails bolts
and screws) but I can always make another that will closely resemble what is
pictured.
All prices are
negotiable. If you are a dealer or individual
simply wanting something unique for your home please
call or email and we will negotiate!
